Modern Transport Engineers builds heavy transport trailers in Hamilton. Its accounting, payroll and workshop time clocks were all heading for end of life, and the time clock only recorded who was in the building.
That meant managers learned how many hours a build had taken after it was finished. Too late to fix anything.
What we built
A workshop system written around how MTE builds trailers. Staff clock on at a touchscreen kiosk and pick the job and task. That one stream of data drives job and task tracking, workforce tracking, cost tracking and live reporting, and flows through to payroll and accounting.
We ran it as a 12-month pilot in a single workshop first, changing it as the people on the tools told us what worked. It went live before the old payroll system ran out.
The result
MTE's IT Manager, Shaun Clarkin, says the visibility has lifted production by at least 30%. Managers now see progress, workloads and cost while a job is still running, and move work around before it slips.
Sharp NZ supplied the commercial displays that carry the dashboards, and introduced us to MTE. They've written up the project from their side too.
